Glaze

Most of Chris’ pots are unglazed on their exterior surfaces. This allows the ash and embers, that are generated by the wood firing, to have the maximum effect on the colour and texture of the pots.

The insides of the pots are glazed so as to make them practical for use. These glazes are made from a variety of powdered rocks and minerals including sieved and washed wood ash.

Oak ash in particular is a favourite ingredient which is sourced from a local fish and meat smokery.

The glazes are applied by pouring, dipping and brushing on to both raw clay and biscuit fired pots.
